Bad Weather Procedures

Type of Warning

Information for parents/guardians


Standby Signal No. 1

 

All schools will operate as normal


Strong Wind Signal No. 3


Primary and Secondary schools will operate as normal unless advised otherwise.


Typhoon Signal No. 8 and above

If the signal is raised before school starts, all schools will be closed.

 

Please pay attention to the media announcements and check the Hong Kong Observatory website or app in case the weather deteriorates. Announcements are usually made from 6am onwards. If the signal is raised while children are at school, please make arrangements to collect your child/children if it is safe to do so. 


The procedure for the return journey home for Secondary students is indicated on the Pre-8 Typhoon Signal Form – which is completed at the start of the academic year. 


The procedure for the return journey home for Primary students is that the parent/guardian or helper is expected to collect the child/children.


School buses will not operate.

 

Please pay attention to ESF App notifications on your mobile device, as the school may be sending updates on the developments. 


Amber Rainstorm Warning Signal

All schools will operate as normal.

 

Please pay attention to the media announcements and check the Hong Kong Observatory website or app in case the weather deteriorates.


Red or Black Rainstorm Warning Signal

  1. SCENARIO 1 - When the signal is raised before the start of school, all schools will close for the day.
  2. SCENARIO 2 - When the signal is raised while students are on their way to school, if students arrive at the campus, they will be supervised until it is safe to pick them up.
  3. SCENARIO 3 - When classes are in session, the school is required to keep students on-site at school until the signal is lowered
  • If you usually come to school to collect your child, you may still do so. Please go to your child's classroom to collect your child directly.
  • If your child usually goes home on the bus, they will remain at school until the Red Rain signal goes down or an adult comes to collect them from school.
  • If your child usually makes their own way home, they must remain at school until an adult comes to school to collect them or the Red Rain signal is lowered.
  • If you want to authorise another adult/older sibling to collect your child, you must do so in writing. This written permission must be shown to a teacher/EA/school leader.
